While upholding Hoyt’s Policies and Mission and Values Statements, the Building and Facilities Tech is primarily responsible for maintaining the building and facility infrastructure. In addition, this person is also responsible for servicing all major facilities equipment breakdowns and may be used to install new utility lines (electrical, plumbing, natural gas, water, etc.).

Requirements

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Construction, carpentry, and remodeling, including methods of construction, appropriate materials, finishes, products, and application procedures.
  • Applicable state and federal, building, fire, and electrical codes.
  • Care, maintenance, and safe operation of assigned equipment.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions of maintenance work.
  • Practices, methods, and material used in construction, plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Electricity and electrical systems have both AC and DC voltages up to and including 460-volt 3-phase power.
  • Organize, set priorities, and exercise sound independent judgment within areas of responsibility.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Handle stress effectively without it interfering with performance.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to complete tasks and with little supervision.
  • Operate basic technical diagnostic equipment including but not limited to amp meters, voltage meters, circuit testers, and special diagnostic instruments.
  • Diagnose and detect needed repairs and potential problems to structures and equipment including air handlers, HVAC systems, commercial kitchen equipment, elevators, generators, and their components.
  • Design and build a variety of projects including but not limited to walls, shelving, sidewalks, pathways, office, and storage spaces.
  • Detect electrical circuit problems and implement approved repairs.
  • Secure information and draft job cost estimates including materials and labor estimates.
  • Prior experience working in a related construction trade or instruction at a related trade school.
  • Building and facility Maintenance 2-3 years
  • Building electrical wiring in a manufacturing environment 2-3 years
  • Basic carpentry 2-3 years
  • Plumbing experience, including PVC, ABS, Black Iron, Copper 1 year

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, repair, install, and perform routine maintenance on the building facilities and associated equipment, including, but not limited to the HVAC, water pumps, and other mechanical operating systems. This includes preventative maintenance programs and procedures.
  • Maintain both routine and specialized maintenance schedules and policies for all operating systems and equipment.
  • Design, build, install, and/or repair equipment using technical knowledge, skills, abilities, techniques, and equipment customary to mechanical, electrical, painting, drywall repair, woodworking, plumbing, and horticultural work.
  • Prepare and present job cost documentation including material lists, labor estimates, and time schedules.
  • Routinely evaluate and access machinery, and equipment for compliance with State and Federal codes and regulations.
  • Diagnose problems and make repairs or work with appropriate contractors, consultants, and other repair personnel to resolve issues that arise with the facilities, machinery, or equipment.
  • Develop, maintain, prepare, and provide all necessary and appropriate records and reports on the repair, maintenance, and replacement needs of equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management, including, but not limited to general housekeeping of the shop area, assisting in department layouts to help determine proper layout to maximize current resources and capabilities.
