Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience operating and maintaining commercial or industrial building systems
  • Technical or Trade School diploma or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of: HVAC, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems
  • Proficiency using computerized BAS (Building Management Systems)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be eligible to join International Union of Operating Engineers Local 835.
  • Philadelphia Grade A Engineer License Required.

Responsibilities

  • Operating, monitoring, maintaining, and repairing HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, cooling towers, air handlers)
  • Operating, monitoring, maintaining, and repairing Electrical systems, generators, and lighting
  • Operating, monitoring, maintaining, and repairing Plumbing systems and pumps
  • Operating, monitoring, maintaining, and repairing Building automation systems (BAS/BMS)
  • Performing preventive maintenance and responding to emergency repairs.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Inspecting building systems to identify issues and ensure optimal performance.
  • Monitoring energy usage and assisting with energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Maintaining accurate logs, work orders, and maintenance records.
  • Responding promptly to alarms, system failures, or occupant service requests.
  • Conducting routine safety inspections and testing of equipment.
  • Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal codes (OSHA, EPA, building codes).
  • Coordinating with contractors, vendors, and inspectors as necessary.
  • Supporting building management during inspections and audits.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized mechanical space.
  • Responding to radio calls for assistance from museum staff
  • Attending mandatory staff meetings
  • Performing cleaning and maintenance duties when porters are not present
  • Assisting with exhibit installation and deinstallation when needed
  • Assisting with outdoor maintenance as required
  • Assisting event staff with event setup as needed
