About The Position

ISL is seeking to grow and mentor an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) for its Building Enclosure team, based in Calgary, AB. This role offers unique experience in building enclosure work, introducing the EIT to the full lifecycle of enclosure projects. The team tackles diverse projects including condition assessments, glazing investigations, waterproofing, re-roofs, facade restoration, and new construction consulting for various clients such as institutional, industrial, commercial, property managers, condominium boards, and government entities. ISL is a multidisciplinary firm with over 600 employees, specializing in sectors like Transportation, Municipal and Community, Bridges, Buildings and Structures, and Land and Environment. The Building Enclosure Team specifically works on projects in and around Calgary and Canmore, and supports other ISL offices.

Requirements

  • Degree in civil or structural engineering, building or architectural science, EIT or a combination of education and work experience
  • 0–3 years of related experience (new grads welcome if genuinely enclosure‑interested)
  • Strong interest in building enclosure / building science (façades, roofs, waterproofing, air/vapour barriers, glazing systems)
  • Aptitude to have strong technical knowledge of building enclosure design and construction principles
  • Experience preparing design packages including drawings and specifications
  • Ability to solve problems using past experience and building science principals
  • Skill in building condition assessments and report writing

  • Recent graduation from a Structural program
  • Genuine interest in building science underlying enclosure performance, vapour drive, thermal bridging, pressure differentials

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the preparation of design packages including drawings and specifications
  • Field review of work in progress to confirm general conformance to the design documents
  • Review documentation (e.g. architectural drawings) to identify areas of risk for water ingress, air leakage, and condensation
  • General contract administration tasks – change orders, site instructions, certificates for payment, etc.
  • Assisting with investigations and reports documenting existing conditions and evaluation of future risks
  • Supporting Building Enclosure Condition Assessments across a range of building types and sectors
  • Other related duties as assigned
