About The Position

SSR is seeking a motivated Building Enclosure Engineer-in-Training I (EIT I) to join our Building Enclosure Services team. In this role, you will support the evaluation, design, testing, and review of building enclosure systems, including roofing, exterior walls, windows, waterproofing, and air and moisture barriers. Working alongside experienced engineers and consultants, you will help ensure building performance, durability, energy efficiency, and long-term resilience for a variety of project types. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop technical expertise in building science while gaining exposure to both new construction and existing building assessments.

Requirements

  • M.S. or B.S. in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, or Bachelor of Architecture
  • A demonstrated ability to learn the basics of design and analysis within his/her discipline
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Clear written communication and technical writing; strong presentation and verbal skills (speech clarity).
  • Detail‑orientation with sound judgment; able to follow direction, manage time, and document work accurately.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with industry organizations and standards such as ASTM, AAMA, IIBEC, and ASHRAE.
  • Strong interest in building science, building enclosure systems, and construction materials.
  • Ability and willingness to perform field work, including climbing ladders, accessing rooftops, and working at active construction sites.
  • Comfortable working from heights.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or enclosure testing methodologies is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Apply sound architectural/engineering principles to tasks across roofing, walls, glazing, waterproofing, and air/vapor control systems.
  • Conduct peer reviews of architectural drawings and specifications; flag coordination and constructability issues.
  • Review submittals and shop drawings for conformance with contract documents.
  • Assist in developing and executing test procedures for new and existing enclosure systems.
  • Perform construction site visits to verify system performance and field testing (including work at heights).
  • Support condition surveys and assist with failure investigations of existing buildings.
  • Assist in developing repair design documents and details under supervision.
  • Demonstrate interest in learning and operating enclosure‑related software and tools.
  • Operate in a manner consistent with ethical engineering standards and SSR policies.
