About The Position

Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) is seeking a Building Enclosure Consultant (Senior Associate) with 10+ years of experience to join our Austin, Texas office. This is a doer-manager role where you will lead envelope investigations, diagnostics, detailing, and rehabilitation projects across contemporary and historic structures. You will work directly with clients, contractors, and consultants from day one, supported by a sharp team of associates and direct access to industry-recognized senior leaders. Requirements

  • Registered Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE); other relevant professional certifications (e.g., RBEC, RRC, RWC, REWC) will be considered with significant relevant expertise.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in architecture, architectural engineering, building science, civil engineering, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in building enclosure consulting, including technical and project management, with demonstrated expertise in the evaluation, diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and detailing of various building envelope, roofing, and waterproofing systems, particularly at the interface of different systems, assemblies, or components.
  • Applied expertise in hygrothermal principles (i.e., heat, air, and moisture control) across building envelope materials, assemblies, and their interfaces.
  • Excellent technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel and attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sites.
  • Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instruments.
  • Ability to safely work at heights, in confined spaces, and in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations, including outdoors with exposure to temperature extremes.
  • Ability to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and other heavy equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other forms of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle.

  • Assembling and managing project teams.
  • Maintaining project schedules, budgets, and financials.
  • Managing client expectations and deliverables.
  • Mentorship, including exemplifying WJE’s culture of shared destiny and knowledge sharing to better the team around you: locally and company-wide, formally and informally, on-and-off projects, for technical topics and overall career development.
  • Contributions to local and company-wide objectives, including proactively fostering new and existing client relationships in pursuit of project work you are excited about.
