About The Position

The Cities of Englewood and Sheridan are seeking a full-time Building Electrification Specialist to advance building electrification within both cities' building stocks. This role involves working directly with residential, commercial, and municipal stakeholders to increase both the knowledge and transition of building electrification. This position is funded for four years via a Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) jurisdictional subaward grant and the position is not guaranteed to continue after the four years conclude.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies, Public Policy, Engineering, Urban Planning, Sustainability, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Three (3) years of professional or technical level experience energy, sustainability, building decarbonization, or a related field.
  • One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Ability to work well independently or within a team environment.
  • Familiarity with clean energy technologies such as heat pumps, induction stoves, and electric water heaters.
  • Contract management and/or program management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing programs or projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively with the multifamily housing community and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills, with experience developing outreach materials for diverse audiences.
  • Effective community outreach and presentation skills, specifically as they relate to racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse audiences.
  • Proficient word processing, spreadsheet, database, and desktop publishing skills (i.e., Microsoft Office) with the ability to learn additional database systems.
  • Strong ability to use independent judgment utilizing prioritization and organization skills.
  • Ability to travel to events located throughout Englewood and Sheridan and work after business hours, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead building electrification strategies for residential, commercial, and municipal properties.
  • Help implement the Beneficial Electrification Plan in Sheridan.
  • Help implement the City of Englewood’s Low Income Energy Efficiency Outreach Strategy.
  • Investigate and potentially implement community beneficial electrification programs such as group-buy programs for heat pumps.
  • Assist with the management of vendor or consultant contracts related to electrification studies, outreach, or retrofit projects.
  • Evaluate overall program effectiveness, recommending and implementing design or development changes.
  • Identify and support grant applications and funding opportunities to expand electrification programs.
  • Develop and deliver outreach materials, workshops, and events to educate residents, businesses, and city staff on the benefits of electrification.
  • Organize learning sessions for property owners on topics such as incentives and retrofit opportunities.
  • Co-create and implement outreach strategies to serve low-income individuals and historically marginalized populations.
  • Represent the cities at community events, workshops, and tabling opportunities.
  • Solicit feedback from community members and stakeholders to improve program delivery.
  • Ensure outreach materials are culturally appropriate and available in relevant languages.
  • Build and maintain relationships with property owners, managers, and affordable housing providers in Englewood and Sheridan.
  • Collaborate with the Green Business Program Coordinator on electrification efforts for commercial properties.
  • Assist — as needed — the Energy Efficient Englewood (E3) program administrator.
  • Work closely with each city’s building department to understand regulatory opportunities and challenges.
  • Assemble and facilitate stakeholder learning groups, including affordable housing providers, contractors, think tanks, engineers, and tax professionals.
  • Collaborate with other regional municipalities to share ideas and coordinate programs.
  • Participate in Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) decarbonization working groups.
  • Assist with the management of vendor or consultant contracts related to electrification studies, outreach, or retrofit projects.
  • Evaluate overall program effectiveness, recommending and implementing design or development changes.
  • Identify and support grant applications and funding opportunities to expand electrification programs.
