About The Position

Brookline Council on Aging seeks a dependable and detail-oriented Building Custodian to support daily operations at the Senior Center and ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for older adults and visitors. This position plays a key role in maintaining facility cleanliness, supporting programs and events, and performing routine building maintenance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and experience in custodial or maintenance work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Class D Driver’s License.
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning methods and materials.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools for maintenance and repairs.
  • Capacity to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to identify building maintenance needs.
  • Ability to work independently on an established schedule.
  • Ability to manage moderate to strenuous physical tasks, including lifting up to 60 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Open and secure the building daily and ensure all areas are prepared for use.
  • Set up and break down furniture, equipment, coffee, and food for programs and events.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all interior spaces, including washing windows and walls, mopping floors, vacuuming carpets, and disposing of trash and recycling.
  • Change light bulbs, perform minor repairs, and report major issues to the Building Department.
  • Monitor building systems to ensure proper operation, including checking boiler gauges, heating, ventilation, and elevator functionality.
  • Maintain inventories, order supplies, prepare work orders, and keep accurate records.
  • Contact police or fire departments in emergencies.
  • Perform related tasks and additional duties as assigned.
