About The Position

The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an opening for a Building Coordinator C04 – NYC ILR Facilities Coordinator for the NYC ILR facility located at 570 Lexington Ave. This is a full-time (35 hours a week), bargaining unit position that falls under the non-exempt CWA contract. The position is based at the ILR NYC Extension office located at 570 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10022. We are seeking an experienced Facility Coordinator to oversee the maintenance, operation, and improvement of our NYC facility, which encompasses two floors, including office space and conference rooms. The facility includes 90 employee and guest workspaces and a conference center that accommodates groups from 2 to 100, offering six conference rooms, video conferencing capabilities, and on-site program/event support. The NYC Conference Center operates Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturday, as needed, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Work Schedule: This position is on-site and regularly scheduled to work from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with hours varying based on operational needs. Based on the business needs of the office, evening and weekend work will be required with advanced notice. Opportunities for evening shifts after 7:00 p.m. are available for self-selection, subject to scheduling and operational needs.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to three years of relevant work experience.
  • Prior experience in facilities or custodial services.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on customer service.
  • Must have a record of excellent attendance and dependability.
  • Thorough understanding of safety procedures to avoid accidents arising from product or equipment misuse.
  • Excellent physical condition and ability to perform repetitive lifting of up to 100 lbs.
  • Interact effectively with stakeholders and co-workers while maintaining a professional and positive attitude.
  • Perform self-directed work to accomplish goals required.
  • Perform well in a team environment.
  • Able to organize information and tasks with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to quality, health, and safety standards, complying with fire codes.
  • Troubleshoot and respond to routine and emergency maintenance issues.
  • Maintain and update inventory of spaces, furnishings, and equipment.
  • Interface with building users for the proper operation of office equipment.
  • Coordinate with environmental health and safety teams and manage emergency logistics.
  • Ensure adherence to established facility use procedures and policies.
  • Manage facility infrastructure, monitoring heating, cooling, and electrical systems.
  • Oversee vendor contracts, ensuring Certificates of Insurance are current.
  • Build and maintain the annual facility budget; reconcile expenses monthly.
  • Serve as the main contact with building management, recommending necessary repairs.
  • Primarily responsible for set-up and dismantling conference setups according to event requirements.
  • Provide media assistant support and arrange furnishings for special events.
  • Maintain compliance with health guidelines for food service and catering areas.
  • Register participants and guests using building management guest systems.
  • Handle the physical security of the mail sorting facility.
  • Sort and distribute U.S. and campus mail and process shipments, maintaining organization and compliance.
  • Communicate with mail recipients, manage inventory, and update mailing procedures.
  • Coordinate building evacuation and emergency management logistics.
  • Oversee CPR and AED certifications and training for emergency personnel.
  • Ensure annual compliance with safety regulations, including the Clery Act.
  • Assist technology services with equipment moves and maintaining workstations.
  • Participate in projects and complete university-required compliance training.
  • Manage common areas, ensuring cleanliness and organization.

Benefits

  • Salary per CWA non-exempt bargaining unit contract: $36.57/hour
