About The Position

Join JLL's dedicated team supporting Charles River Laboratories, a global leader in life sciences research. As a Specialist in Engineering Services, you'll play a critical role in maintaining the sophisticated environmental control systems that enable breakthrough scientific research. This position focuses on building automation, HVAC controls, and refrigeration systems that maintain the precise conditions required for laboratory operations. Working on our 2nd shift team, you'll ensure continuous system performance, respond to critical alarms, and collaborate with experienced professionals to optimize facility operations. Your expertise will directly support vital research activities while advancing your career in the specialized field of life sciences facility management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Building Operator, Control Systems Technician, or in a similar facilities maintenance role
  • EPA Universal or Type II Refrigeration Certification (required and must be current)
  • Demonstrated experience with building automation systems (BAS) such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, or similar platforms
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, control sequences, and technical documentation
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with ability to work independently and make sound decisions in time-sensitive situations
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical degree or certification in HVAC, Building Automation, or related field strongly preferred
  • Previous experience supporting laboratory, pharmaceutical, or life sciences facilities
  • Advanced certifications in building automation, control systems, or HVAC specialties
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) such as Maximo, SAP, or similar platforms
  • Knowledge of energy management principles and sustainability best practices
  • Experience with critical environment monitoring systems and clean room operations
  • Understanding of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) or laboratory compliance standards

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate building automation systems (BAS) to maintain precise environmental conditions critical to laboratory research and animal care operations
  • Respond to system alarms and troubleshoot environmental control issues, taking corrective action to minimize downtime and protect critical research environments
  • Perform preventive maintenance and light mechanical repairs on HVAC equipment, refrigeration units, and building automation components
  • Conduct routine inspections of EPA-certified refrigeration systems and mechanical equipment, documenting performance data and maintenance activities in computerized systems
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and facility leadership to schedule repairs and improvements while maintaining operational continuity
  • Participate in emergency response procedures and weekend rotation to ensure 24/7 coverage of critical building systems
  • Maintain accurate records of system performance, work orders, and regulatory compliance documentation
