About The Position

LRI Engineering is seeking engineers and architects for mid-level Building Code Consultant roles in their downtown Toronto office. This challenging and rewarding project consulting position requires a proactive and critical thinker eager to gain technical expertise and a strong understanding of the Building Code. Project Consultants will perform code consulting, review design documentation, and coordinate with clients and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with applicable building and fire codes. The role involves working closely with senior consultants to manage projects and support senior staff on more complex ones.

Requirements

  • University degree in mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering or architectural engineering.
  • 5-10 years of experience in building and fire code consulting, or a related field.
  • Strong technical report writing, communication, and technical skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of building and fire codes (NBC, NFC, OBC, OFC) and industry standards (NFPA, CAN/ULC, CSA).
  • Ability to work on and support multiple projects, including assisting with or independently handling planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive and collaborative relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and Bluebeam or other relevant software.

Responsibilities

  • Review building designs and apply relevant Building and Fire Code to new and renovation projects.
  • Conduct code analysis reports and other technical documentation, providing alternative design solutions for compliance.
  • Collaborate with project teams, consultants, clients, contractors, and stakeholders for project delivery.
  • Manage assigned projects from start to finish and serve as the client point of contact.
  • Collaborate with project administrators for smooth project management, timely invoicing, and follow-through.
  • Attend meetings with clients, stakeholders, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to discuss project details.
  • Provide input for project proposals.
  • Provide assistance and support for project billings.
  • Engage in professional development by attending industry conferences, training sessions, and webinars.
  • Participate in business development initiatives, identify opportunities, and support service expansion.
