About The Position

This role involves servicing and maintaining Building Automation Systems (BAS), including web supervisors and JACE stations. The technician will design, install, repair, test, commission, operate, and maintain BAS control equipment and network infrastructure, as well as write and modify control programs. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, repairing, and programming control systems, BAS-related PCs, and communication systems. The position requires analyzing and diagnosing controls systems associated with HVAC equipment, pumps, motors, sensors, modules, and VFDs, along with minor PC troubleshooting. The role also encompasses preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for HVAC equipment controls, power plant/mechanical room processes, and analytical instrumentation. Building and maintaining the graphical database for facility assets to ensure a high-quality user experience is key. The technician will collaborate with in-house resources, contractors, vendors, and the Local Project Management Team/Technical Review Board (TRB) for new equipment and control system implementations. Proactive optimization of site control systems to manage operating costs for various mechanical systems like HVAC, chillers, towers, and compressors is expected. Proficiency in Tridium Niagara and various DDC protocols (BACnet, ModBus, PUP, AAM) is required. The role involves trending BAS data, analyzing it for energy savings, functionality, and reliability, and validating maintenance programs. Setting up automated services, performing regular maintenance, system backups, software updates, and monitoring system performance are also core duties. Identifying areas for improvement, upgrades, ensuring network communication, and optimizing system settings for energy efficiency and occupant comfort are crucial. The technician will proactively participate in and lead company sustainability efforts, including contributing to BAE's Net Zero initiative through energy conservation and sustainability practices. Providing training and support to end-users and operators, staying updated with industry trends, and maintaining BAS credentials through continued education are expected. Ensuring BAS compliance with safety and regulatory standards, documenting system performance using Maximo CMMS, and adhering to company policies and procedures are also required. The role may involve assisting with metrics data and maintaining BAE Systems BAS standards.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Completion of at least 60% of a recognized Certificate program in Building Automation systems.
  • 5 years of commercial / Industrial experience related to BAS.
  • Ability to achieve Tridium Niagara AX certification within first year in position.
  • An EPA Universal Certification (Class IV) for the proper use of refrigerants.
  • Minimum of (4) years of commercial / industrial experience in BAS and HVAC trade.
  • Niagara 4 certification level III, within 1 year of hire.
  • Experience with various communication protocols including BACnet, Lon, Modbus, Honeywell, Distech, Siemens, JCI, Trane, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to communicate clearly on aspects of building automation and sustainability.
  • Ability to comprehend existing Block programming to support operational functionality.
  • Ability to comprehend existing line programming to support some legacy systems still in service.
  • Ability to get a secret clearance.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant building codes and standards.
  • Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years work experience or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Service and maintain Building Automation web supervisor and subsequent JACE stations.
  • Design, install, repair, test, commission, operate, and maintain all types of BAS control equipment network infrastructure.
  • Write and modify control programs.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and program control systems, BAS related PCs, translators, comm modules, and other BAS related communication systems.
  • Analyze and diagnose controls systems associated with HVAC equipment, pumps, motors, sensors, modules, and VFDs.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and/or corrective maintenance for HVAC equipment controls, Power Plant / Mechanical Room processes, and analytical instrumentation.
  • Build and maintain the Graphical database representing the assets for the facility.
  • Collaborate with in-house resources, building contractors, service vendors, and the Local Project Management Team and/or the Technical Review Board (TRB) on project implementations.
  • Proactively optimize site control systems to manage operating costs for mechanical systems.
  • Perform trending on Building Automation Systems and utility interface programs, analyze data, and adjust operational parameters for energy savings, functionality, and reliability.
  • Validate that systems have proper maintenance programs.
  • Set up automated services and conduct regular maintenance tasks on the building automation system, including performing system backups, updating licensing, and updating software.
  • Monitor system performance, identify areas for improvement and needed upgrades, ensure networks are communicating, and optimize system settings for energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
  • Proactively participate in/lead company sustainability efforts and team meetings.
  • Provide training and support to end users or operators of the building automation system.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and advancements in building automation technology.
  • Maintain BAS credentials and proficiency through continued education, seminars etc.
  • Ensure that the building automation system complies with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Document and report system performance using the Maximo CMMS system.
  • Follow company's policies and procedures, including safety protocols, quality standards, and customer service guidelines.
  • Assist with Metrics Data.
  • Maintain all BAE Systems BAS standards.
  • Perform other duties as determined by Team Leader or Department Manager.
