About The Position

Critical Systems, LLC is seeking a motivated BAS/Controls Engineering Intern to join our Building Automation Systems team. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the technology used to monitor, control, and optimize HVAC and building systems in data centers, healthcare facilities, laboratories, and other critical infrastructure environments. The ideal candidate is an engineering student who is interested in the intersection of mechanical systems, electrical systems, automation, controls, and technology and wants to apply classroom knowledge to real-world building automation projects.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, BAS, HVAC Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in automation, controls, HVAC, building systems, or engineering technology.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, or control systems.
  • Ability to read and understand basic engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with programming, logic, or scripting is a plus.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, Niagara, JCI, Delta Controls, or other BAS/controls platforms is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Controls Engineers with the design, programming, and application of Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Support the development and review of control sequences for HVAC commissioning, and maintenance of Building Automation Systems (BAS) for commercial, industrial, and mission-critical facilities.
  • Support the development and modification of BAS control logic and programming.
  • Learn how sensors, actuators, controllers, and other field devices interact with HVAC systems.
  • Assist with testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of BAS/controls systems.
  • Participate in project meetings and gain exposure to the coordination of controls with mechanical, electrical, and other building systems.
  • Assist with documentation, spreadsheets, reports, and other project deliverables.
  • Perform other engineering and technical tasks as assigned.
