About The Position

This is a temporary, part-time position averaging approximately 20–29 hours per week, supporting the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department's Facilities Division. The Building Attendant will help keep facilities safe, clean, and event-ready, supporting programs and gatherings that bring the Gainesville community together. This role provides essential on-site support for programs, events, and facility rentals, promoting a welcoming environment by assisting with facility supervision, event setup and breakdown, custodial duties, and delivering high-quality customer service. Weekly schedules are determined by program and event needs, requiring weekdays, mornings, mid-shifts, evenings, weekends, and holiday work. A Level 2 background check is required.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • One year experience in janitorial work that includes public contact, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
  • Work requires physical strength and agility.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work requires wearing uniform supplied and in compliance with dress code.
  • Ability to work effectively with coworkers and the general public.
  • Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and understand complex work schedules and diagrams.

Nice To Haves

  • May perform lead worker or supervisory duties with contract and temporary employees.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general janitorial and attendant work at assigned building facilities and grounds, including set-up and clean-up after events and activities.
  • Moves and lifts heavy equipment, tables, chairs, and other objects to prepare for and clean up after events and programs.
  • Locks and unlocks facilities and notifies appropriate authorities in event of emergency.
  • Monitors events and programs and assists as needed.
  • Enforces strict applicable rules and regulations by informing general public participants.
  • Attends work on continuous and regular basis.
