About The Position

Rancho California Water District is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill a Building & Grounds Worker I/II position. Depending on qualifications and experience, this position may be filled at either the entry-level (Building & Grounds Worker - I) or journey-level (Building & Grounds Worker II). Under immediate progressing to general supervision, to perform a variety of facilities maintenance, construction, and landscaping duties. This position may also assist in the Meters / AMI Department to handle meter testing in the field.

Requirements

  • Basic principles, practices, methods, tools, and materials as they relate to the maintenance and repair of district buildings and facilities.
  • Basic landscaping techniques
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Follow written and oral instructions.
  • Advanced principles, practices, methods, tools, and materials as they relate to the maintenance and repair of district buildings and facilities.
  • Advanced landscaping repairs, troubleshooting and timer replacements.
  • Advanced construction modification, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Operate heavy equipment including skip loader, forklift and weed eater.
  • Diagnose and repair routine facilities/landscaping problems.
  • Operates a District vehicle to travel between job sites and remote facilities.
  • Must be able to carry, push, pull, reach and lift equipment and parts up to 50 lbs. and heavier weights with the use of proper assistance.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb during regular duties.
  • Communicates verbally with District management, co-workers, and the public in face-to-face, one-on-one, and group meetings.
  • Use office equipment such as computers, copier, and fax machines.
  • Regularly uses a computer, phone or radio for communication.
  • Ability to speak and hear both in person, by computer, phone, and radio.
  • Vision within normal ranges with or without correction
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Regular attendance.
  • One (1) year of landscaping or general maintenance duties.
  • Any combination of formal or informal training and education that provides the ability to read and write at a level required to satisfactorily perform the assigned duties.
  • Valid California driver's license, required.
  • First Aid, Traffic Control, and Forklift Certificates required or obtain within one (1) year.
  • Two (2) or more years of increasingly responsible experience in a related field, or two (2) years as a Building & Grounds Worker I.
  • Any combination of formal or informal training and education that provides the ability to read and write at a level required to satisfactorily perform the assigned duties, supplemented by specialized training in facilities/landscape maintenance.
  • Forklift Operator Certificate, required.
  • First Aid Certificate, required.
  • Traffic Control Certificate, required.
  • Grade D1 Water Distribution Certificate - SWRCB, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Grade D1 Water Distribution Certificate - SWRCB, desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Performs regular building maintenance including cleaning all District facilities.
  • Performs general facilities projects such as painting, basic plumbing and construction repairs.
  • Performs general landscape inspections and minor repairs maintenance to District facilities including repair, installation and monitoring of sprinkler systems; re-stripe parking lots and repair fenced areas.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs a variety of mechanical and power tools, equipment, and testing instruments, such as power saws, power sanders, drills, air compressors, paint sprayers, sewer augers, and various hand tools required for carpentry, plumbing, and maintenance.
  • Purchase and requisitions materials and supplies for assigned projects; orders equipment needed and maintains work records.
  • Monitors contractors working in and around buildings and facilities to ensure the work is appropriately performed to district standards.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Assist with conducting meter bench tests to AWWA specifications, when requested, and to field test meter sizes ¾” – 12.”
