About The Position

The Buffer Operator is responsible for operating buffing equipment to ensure quality buffing of all treads. This role involves working a 12-hour shift and requires the ability to stand for the duration of the shift, follow instructions, and work as a team player. The position also involves handling tread rolls repeatedly and managing the buffing machinery, including adjustments and sharpening of the buffer brush. Requirements

  • Ability to work a 12-hour shift beginning either 7AM or 7PM.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to stand for duration of shift.
  • Ability to be a team player.
  • Ability to handle tread rolls 40 – 180 repeatedly.

Responsibilities

  • Run the buffing equipment ensuring that all treads are given quality buff.
  • Pick up the ticket from the tread stack and walk to next post for inspection and set up.
  • Un-wrap the tread stack by cutting the plastic wrap.
  • Pull one tread roll off the stack, flip it and roll it on to the roll trough.
  • Pull the open end of the tread roll and feed it into the End Buffer (first buffer).
  • Take the same end after it slides out of the end buffer and feed it into the Main Buffer (second buffer).
  • Monitor the controls on the left side of the machine to adjust and/or sharpen the buffer.
  • Repeat the task until each roll is run through the machines.
  • After emptying each pallet, pull and drag the empty pallet on to the area designated for empty pallet storage until forklift driver picks them up.
  • Push the next full pallet closer to the machine on the pallet indexer.
  • In case of a jam, push the stop button to halt the line, lock it in place and walk to the side to raise hood.
  • Sharpen the brush by lifting the brush sharpener from its storage stand, moving to each brush (5 total) and placing the sharpener inside the machine, using the twist knob to allow sharpening for short intervals, repetitions, and returning the brush sharpener to the storage stand.
