About The Position

As an Budget Officer in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), District of New Mexico, you will be responsible for planning, formulating, justifying, implementing, and administering budget and financial management activities. You will provide positive recommendations and alternative approaches to improve program plans, budget proposals, costs of operations, and program accomplishments. You will also prepare budget justifications for recommended allocation levels, particularly deviations from initial office submissions. Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting goals and priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work are key duties. Assigning work to subordinates based on difficulty of assignments and staff capabilities, and evaluating their work performance are also part of the role. You will provide technical advice and assistance to resolve problems referred by staff and interview candidates for positions in the unit, making tentative selections subject to approval by the United States Attorney. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. or National Citizen.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication.
  • This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.
  • Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • If selected, you will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a one year supervisory or managerial probationary period unless this requirement has been met previously.
  • Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • Must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
  • One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level.
  • Specialized experience is defined as experience as a financial management expert in developing, planning, implementing, and administering the full spectrum of budget and financial management activities.
  • Examples of specialized experience include: analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of financial management programs, systems, and operations in meeting established goals and objectives; developing financial policies to facilitate achievement of program goals and objectives; providing recommendations and alternative approaches to improve program plans, budget proposals, costs of operations, and program accomplishments; and providing technical guidance, advice, and assistance to senior management in the identification of future resource and budget requirements.
