About The Position

A Budget/Management Analyst I performs routine and complex budget or management analysis, fiscal research or related work. Work of this class requires no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive general supervision, from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, public policy, economics, accounting, statistics, political science or operations research from an accredited college or university.
  • Six months experience in the analysis of budgets, management operations, government programs, statistics, economics, public policy, legislation or systems.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of budget or management analysis or fiscal research.
  • Knowledge of the techniques and application of management research and analysis.
  • Skill in the analysis of government agency budgets, organization, administration and staffing.
  • Skill in utilizing standard business software programs such as spreadsheets, word processing, database, presentation and graphics programs.
  • Ability to express ideas and abstract thoughts clearly in written and oral form.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in business, public administration, public policy, economics, accounting, statistics, political science or operations research from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and complex budget or management analysis.
  • Conducts fiscal research.
  • Conducts studies, compiles and analyzes data, and prepares reports.
  • Conducts management and budget studies, analyzes findings, and makes independent and cogent recommendations.
  • Develops budget and administrative procedures and forms.
  • Makes presentations before groups and responds to questions and defends information efficiently and effectively.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with City agency managers and other personnel.
