About The Position

The CalFresh programs at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo is hiring a Budget Coordinator. This is a hybrid, full-time, benefited, grant-dependent position supported by public sector grant funding for the CalFresh Outreach program. CalFresh Outreach first piloted on 9 CSU campuses in 2016 with the goal of increasing the proportion of college students participating in SNAP (CalFresh). Cal Poly SLO was one of the original campuses to launch the program. Since 2016, the need for CalFresh services has grown exponentially. The CalFresh program educates the campus community about CalFresh and helps people apply for the public benefit leveraging a dynamic multidisciplinary team of students, staff, and faculty. The team is comprised of a project director, a full-time program manager, and supporting undergraduate and graduate student staff. This position will be responsible for the project’s budgetary, accounting, data tracking, and related fiscal duties.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year university in a relevant field
  • Minimum 4 years of progressive, responsible experience in accounting, budget management, or related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and Zoom
  • Ability to perform complex and confidential duties
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, organize, and meet timelines
  • Ability to maintain regular, reliable, punctual attendance and communication
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships
  • Self-motivated, works well independently
  • Interpersonal skills: tact, patience, and courtesy
  • A background check is required for this position

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • Master’s degree or graduate coursework in relevant discipline
  • 5+ years of budgeting/accounting experience with grants, including with higher education sponsored programs projects
  • Foundational knowledge and understanding of HR policies and protocol

Responsibilities

  • Oversee budget, fiscal reporting, and accounting
  • Develop systems and procedures to streamline fiscal tracking and reporting
  • Assist project director in fiscal quarterly reporting
  • Gather, track, and analyze data from multiple sources for internal and external outreach and funding efforts
  • Review, maintain, and plan budgets for personnel and purchasing
  • Assist with HR related procedures
  • Work closely with Cal Poly Partners grants and sponsored programs staff on coordinating reporting to internal and sponsor stakeholders
  • Understand and implement Cal Poly State University and Cal Poly Partners policies and procedures related to sponsored programs and grants
  • Attend weekly, in-person leadership meetings with project director and program manager
  • Utilize excellent communication and organization skills to represent the program in order to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships
  • With project director and other staff, help build and maintain positive relationships with partners including but not limited to the SLO County Department of Social Services, the Cal Poly Basic Needs Task Force, SLO County CalFresh Alliance, and Farmers’ Markets Associations
  • Attend partnership and regional network training and events related to CalFresh activities
  • Assist with Marketing/Outreach duties as needed
  • Stay current on State and Federal legislation related to CalFresh/SNAP, relevant CSU policies, and higher education
