About The Position

The Budget Analyst assists with the development, monitoring, and analysis of the Tribe’s operating, capital, and discretionary budgets. Responsibilities include budget planning, forecasting, financial reporting, variance analysis, and ensuring compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and funding requirements. This position works closely with department leaders to support strategic decision-making and effective resource allocation. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support organizational goals. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field required.
  • Two (2) years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis, accounting, governmental finance or related field required.
  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, financial management, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Understanding of grant-funded budgets and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to improve processes, adapt to changing priorities, and overcome challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and the ability to serve as a positive representative of the organization and Tribal culture.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial reports preferred.
  • Previous experience with new software implementation preferred.
  • Experience with ERP and budgeting systems preferred.
  • Tribal Government, municipal, county, state government, non-profit or public sector finance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development, administration, and monitoring of operating, capital, and discretionary budgets.
  • Review budget requests, prepare reports, forecasts, and budget presentations.
  • Monitor expenditures and revenues, analyze budget variances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management.
  • Support financial forecasting, long-range planning, and strategic decision-making.
  • Analyze financial data and evaluate the impact of proposed programs, projects, and policy changes.
  • Assist with performance measurement, budget tracking, and reporting initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with Tribal policies, grant requirements, and funding restrictions.
  • Maintain budget records and support audits, internal controls, and risk management efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
