About The Position

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Budget and Planning, the Budget Analyst is responsible for assisting in the implementation of resource planning and allocation practice, and assisting with all aspects of the budgeting process and budget management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field.
  • Minimum three years of experience in a budget, finance, or related department.
  • Knowledge of budget and statistical analysis.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with computer systems for finance and budgeting.
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts to a variety of employees in the University.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and learn new systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in related field.
  • Experience working in a University or large non-profit setting.
  • Knowledge of Workday Financials.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and monitoring of the University's annual operating budget.
  • Prepare budgetary and demographic information for the annual budget submission to the State of New Jersey's Office of Management and Budget.
  • Serve as Budget Office liaison to specific units of the University as assigned, assisting those units with the management of their budgets.
  • Provide budget analyses and forecasts for presentation to the Board of Trustees.
  • Assist with development of personnel and fringe budgets.
  • Assist with long-range financial projections including, but not limited to, scheduled debt service, personnel expense, tuition and enrollment, and other items.
  • Use a variety of data systems and spreadsheets to analyze student enrollment, personnel headcount and other statistical data that impact financials.
  • Use the University's financial system to create or approve budget journals and transfers.
  • Assist with the development of budgeting and reporting software used by Budget & Planning.
  • Work with Finance & Treasury department on allocations, budget closing, and year-end transfers.
  • Uphold and support existing University policies and procedures and make recommendations that enhance its business practices.
  • Serve on ad hoc committees and task forces, etc., as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
