About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is seeking a detail-oriented Budget Analyst/Senior Budget Analyst for the Planning, Budget, and Analysis (PBA) Office. The Budget Analyst supports the PBA’s Office by conducting budget/accounting review, performing reconciliations, and completing detailed financial analyses to ensure accuracy and integrity in reporting. This role prepares comprehensive financial reports and contributes to the development of both self-supporting and state budgets. Working closely with departments, the Budget Analyst assists with position management and provides data-driven insights to inform planning and decision-making. In this role, the Budget Analyst monitors assigned budgets throughout the fiscal year to ensure department and fund balances remain within available resources. The position ensures revenues and expenditures are recorded accurately, supports compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements, and promotes effective stewardship of financial resources. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and committed to maintaining high standards of financial accountability and service. The Senior Budget Analyst develops and balances state appropriated annual operating budgets and non-appropriated institutional self-supporting budgets of significant size and complexity. The position maintains a significant role in analysis and reporting of budgetary status. In addition, the individual is expected to develop and/or act as a lead for divisional special projects due to subject matter expertise and maintain a specialty function. The position works independently on highly complex or strategic assignments.

Requirements

  • Budget Analyst: Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience; OR a Master’s degree and one (1) year of related work experience.
  • Senior Budget Analyst: Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related work experience; OR a Master’s degree and two (2) years of related work experience.
  • Related Experience: Budgeting or financial management to include preparation, analysis and presentation of financial data to management or related.
  • Senior Budget Analyst Related Experience: Experience in a large public sector environment (i.e., college, university, state budget office, city/county with a population >200,000 or publicly traded company) which includes preparation, analysis and presentation of financial data to senior management and external organizations.
