BSA/AML Officer - US

ARQ•New York, NY

About The Position

ARQ is a fast-growing fintech building infrastructure for moving value across borders. The BSA/AML Officer independently tests the company’s BSA/AML, KYC, OFAC, and transaction-monitoring controls, identifying and measuring risk without owning remediation. Findings must clearly explain what is broken, how severe the risk is, and the evidence supporting the assessment. The role requires direct analysis of data, candid risk ratings, and constructive challenge of control assumptions. The officer tracks issues through closure, escalates overdue items, and helps prepare the company for regulatory examinations and audits.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in BSA/AML, financial crime, internal audit, or regulatory compliance.
  • Experience at a top-tier audit or advisory firm, in-house compliance, or both; experience in both is ideal.
  • Experience writing findings read by regulators, auditors, or boards.
  • Ability to communicate high-risk assessments to senior leaders and support them with applicable regulations.
  • Deep working knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, OFAC, and FinCEN expectations.

Nice To Haves

  • A law degree (JD) or bar admission.
  • A degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics, or another STEM field.
  • Ability to query transaction data using SQL.
  • Experience with Python or R for analysis, sampling, or testing alert logic.
  • Knowledge of statistics, including sampling design, hypothesis testing, and threshold and model validation.
  • CAMS, CRCM, CIA, CISA, CPA, or CFE certification.
  • Exposure to AI or model risk, including SR 11-7 or the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.

Responsibilities

  • Independently test BSA/AML, KYC, OFAC, and transaction-monitoring controls end to end.
  • Rate findings as high, medium, or low and support each rating with evidence suitable for regulatory review.
  • Pull and analyze data directly.
  • Challenge thresholds, alert logic, and sampling assumptions using quantitative analysis.
  • Track open issues until owners close them and escalate when issues are not closed.
  • Prepare for regulatory examinations and audits, including identifying areas of weakness.
