About The Position

The Broadcast Technologies Specialist supports Student Media operations across UATV (student television station), KXUA (student radio station), and Main Hill Media by ensuring studio, control room, and podcasting systems are reliable and ready for daily use. The role provides hands-on technical support, training, and troubleshooting for students, faculty, and staff working in live and recorded broadcast and media production. In addition, this position supports broadcast instruction in the classroom and supervises a small team of student workers providing guidance and oversight during live UATV News broadcasts and day-to-day production needs. Due to the nature of live production, this position requires the availability for flexible scheduling, including evenings. This position requires the willingness to accept 24/7 on-call response for emergencies. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism, media production, communications, information technology, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education
  • At least three years of experience working with audio, video, or broadcast production systems
  • At least three years of experience with live studio, newsroom or event production environments
  • Knowledge of live broadcast and digital media production workflows, including studio control rooms, newsroom operations, and live event production
  • Knowledge of broadcast systems and tools such as switching, automation, streaming platforms, and media asset workflows
  • Skill in diagnosing and resolving technical issues quickly in live production environments under time constraints
  • Skill in operating and supporting audio/video production and editing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud and similar platforms)
  • Ability to train and support students, faculty, and non-technical users in the operation of production equipment and systems
  • Ability to supervise student employees and provide clear instruction in a hands-on, learning-centered environment
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks in a fast-paced media production setting while maintaining attention to detail and production quality
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with users across student media, academic, and technical teams
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in student media, newsroom, or broadcast production environments
  • Prior experience supervising or training student employees or entry-level staff
  • Experience working with live production systems, including switching, automation, and streaming tools
  • Experience working with audio and video editing tools (such as Adobe Creative Cloud) and Ross systems (such as Inception, Expression, and Streamline or similar platforms)
  • Experience supporting classroom instruction or media lab-based learning environments
  • Experience in broadcast engineering, IT support, or production systems management
