About The Position

ATL26 is seeking a highly skilled, self-directed Broadcast IT Engineer to oversee the operation, integration, and security of its modern, IP-based broadcast infrastructure. ATL26 is the City of Atlanta’s 24-hour government access channel, airing on Comcast Channel 26 and providing live and on-demand coverage of City Council meetings, mayoral events, and public information programming. This hybrid role requires hands-on expertise in broadcast and AV systems—including cameras, audio systems, routing/servers, monitoring, and live transmission tools (e.g., LiveU)—along with strong knowledge of network architecture, connected devices, and cybersecurity best practices. Serving as the primary technical liaison with vendors and integrators, this position ensures system performance, testing, and optimization across all broadcast and networked systems while partnering with ATL26 production to support high-quality live and remote programming, including mayoral press conferences, City Council meetings, and special events, in a secure, reliable, and resilient technical environment.

Requirements

  • 7–10 years of experience in broadcast engineering, multimedia production, IT systems support, or related technical field in live production or mission-critical environments.
  • Experience in modern IP-based broadcast and AV environments supporting converged broadcast, production, and IT systems.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise broadcast platforms such as Ross Video systems, LiveU bonded cellular transmission, CASTUS playout/automation, CHAMP workflow systems, SNS EVO shared storage, or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure including networking, servers, and security systems such as Cisco networking equipment, Dell server environments, Palo Alto firewalls, and multi-factor authentication (MFA), or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of system patching, firmware updates, and software lifecycle management across broadcast, AV, and network-connected systems.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles in operational technology (OT), broadcast, or production environments, including system hardening, access control, vulnerability awareness, and remediation coordination.
  • Experience integrating, troubleshooting, and maintaining networked AV and broadcast systems, including cameras, audio systems, routing, encoding, monitoring, and control systems in IP-connected environments.
  • Experience working in Mac and PC-based production environments, supporting hybrid workflows across Windows, macOS, and networked media systems.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, or equivalent tools) in a production or broadcast support environment.
  • Experience working with vendors and system integrators on system commissioning, upgrades, testing, and lifecycle support in live production environments.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical live production environments such as government meetings, public affairs programming, emergency communications, or large-scale live events.
  • Ability to provide 24/7 on-call support for emergency broadcast operations; evening, weekend, and holiday work required as needed.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Broadcast Engineering, Information Technology, or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, CCNA, CTS, or equivalent broadcast/network certifications are a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality and continuity of ATL26 broadcasts, coordinating with Comcast, AT&T, and internal stakeholders to maintain reliable multi-platform transmission.
  • Operate and support integrated broadcast and AV systems, including IP-based routing, automation, production systems, cameras, audio systems, media asset management systems, monitoring, control platforms, and live transmission tools (e.g., LiveU).
  • Perform Tier 1 troubleshooting and advanced operational diagnostics across broadcast, AV, and network-connected systems; escalate complex issues and coordinate resolution with vendors, integrators, and City IT.
  • Serve as primary technical liaison for AV/broadcast vendors and system integrators, supporting system configuration validation, testing, commissioning, upgrades, and issue remediation.
  • Monitor system health and performance across broadcast, AV, and IP-based infrastructure, proactively identifying issues and coordinating preventive maintenance, optimization, and remediation with internal and external partners.
  • Install, configure, and support AV and broadcast systems for live and remote productions including City Council meetings, mayoral events, press conferences, community forums, and emergency communications.
  • Support cybersecurity and system integrity for broadcast and AV environments by assisting with secure configurations, access control, vulnerability identification, and remediation coordination with City IT and vendors.
  • Maintain technical documentation, system configurations, and asset inventory records; coordinate repair, replacement, and vendor service for broadcast and AV equipment to ensure operational continuity and asset integrity.
  • Support budgeting, procurement, and vendor cost analysis for broadcast and AV systems, contributing to lifecycle planning and infrastructure improvements.
  • Provide training and ongoing technical support to staff on broadcast and AV systems and equipment, ensuring consistent operational standards and reliable execution of live and remote productions.
  • Stay current with emerging broadcast, AV, IP media, and network technologies through professional development and industry engagement, and recommend system enhancements to improve performance, security, and reliability.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
