About The Position

The Bridge and Structures Designer 1 performs engineering tasks related to structural design and analysis under the supervision of a licensed Engineer. The role calls for strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to learn and apply technical concepts and engineering skills. The employee is expected to work well with others, apply constructive criticism, and seek guidance from experienced team members. The position may also involve assisting with construction support, in-service inspections, transportation, and other civil engineering tasks. The designer performs basic technical work on projects in support of more experienced staff and operates with minimal autonomy under close supervision. Work includes structural design and analysis, project calculations and documentation, and coordination with the project team and clients as directed.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree required.
EIT/EI required within 6 months of hire.
Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals.
Basic understanding of technical writing and clear internal communications.
Basic understanding of scope, schedules, and budgets for simple tasks.
Basic understanding of standard design codes, including AASHTO, ACI, and AISC.
Ability to work well with others, apply constructive criticism, and seek guidance as needed.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree preferred.
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Basic proficiency with market-sector software such as MathCAD, AutoCAD, or MicroStation.

Responsibilities

Perform basic structural design tasks with oversight.
Work on structural design teams, completing simple tasks under oversight.
Prepare quantity calculations and structural calculations with oversight.
Edit boilerplate special provisions.
Develop contract plans and cost estimates with oversight.
Perform requested client-related tasks with oversight and seek approval before external communications.
Assist with construction support assignments, in-service inspections, transportation, and other civil engineering tasks as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
