About The Position

Otak is seeking an experienced Bridge/Structural Engineer to join our growing team in our Redmond, WA office. In this role, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers, planners, architects, and public and private clients to design solutions for bridge and structural projects of all types, sizes, and levels of complexity. From pedestrian and vehicular bridges, retaining walls, and buried structures to facilities in local, state, and national parks, community transit infrastructure, and site development structures, we continually seek the best balance among form, function, safety, sustainability, constructability, schedule, and budget. The Bridge/Structural Engineer serves as a technical expert in structural engineering analysis, design, and construction. This role also provides guidance to junior engineers in the performance of engineering tasks and coordinates with multidisciplinary teams and clients to support collaborative project delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Registered Washington Civil or Structural Engineer license is required, or the ability to obtain licensure within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of proven experience in bridge and structural engineering.
  • Demonstrated client services and business development skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with various teams throughout the organization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, Bluebeam, and current structural software applications such as Lpile, PGSuper and MIDAS (or equivalent finite element modeling software).
  • Proficiency and familiarity with applicable Codes, including AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and WSDOT Bridge Design Manual.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead structural engineers/designers/technicians in the development of plans, specifications, construction cost estimates and calculations for bridges and various transportation, park, and transit related structures in support of both public and private clients.
  • Perform design services matching local, state and federal design standards.
  • Prepare and lead preparation of construction plans using AutoCAD.
  • Perform site inspections of structural elements of projects in support of design and construction phases of projects.
  • Lead (if qualified) or assist lead inspectors with bridge inspections, including informational condition inspections for bridge load ratings and routine bridge inspections.
  • Plan and coordinate projects with limited supervision.
  • Assist in assigning duties and schedules to team members.
  • Participate and support preparing proposals and project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Participate in business development by building and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Provide construction support services, including responding to requests for information from clients and construction contractors, reviewing material and shop drawing submittits, inspecting structural work during construction, and preparing construction management documentation in coordination with clients and construction contractors.
