About The Position

Collier Engineering is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to support our Transportation Design Department and help develop the department to align with Collier Engineering’s Vision of improving Tennessee communities. We are looking for a driven individual with a background in structural design with an emphasis on bridges, retaining walls, and transportation structures. The ideal candidate will have experience with Bentley Open Roads Software Suite. The ideal candidate will demonstrate reliability, make independent judgment calls, take ownership of assigned tasks, and work well in a team.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication and collaborative skills.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and construction specifications, plans, and regulations.
  • Ability to operate motorized equipment.
  • Attendance, punctuality, and reliability are essential requirements.
  • Flexible work schedule and ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • The ability to qualify for insurance through our Fleet Program.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Transportation/Structural Engineering is required; Emphasis or concentration in structures is preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Prefer 4+ years of experience in bridge design engineering, which includes project work on complex structures, finite element analysis, seismic analysis, and design.
  • Bridge Inspection experience/certification preferred.
  • Tennessee Professional Engineering license required.
  • Advanced knowledge of the practical applications of engineering principles, practices, and techniques, including AASHTO guidelines.
  • Experience in developing and modifying MathCAD programs.
  • Experience with bridge engineering software, including LEAP Bridge, is required.
  • Refined analysis with Midas, CSi Bridge, or other finite element analysis software is preferred.
  • Experience in Microstation CAD, Open Roads Designer, and Microsoft Office applications, (particularly Word and Excel) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing highway and pedestrian bridge projects, coordinating with engineers, designers, technicians, and CADD staff.
  • Participate in bridge inspections for routine and complex bridge structures.
  • Preparation and review of reports, designs, and preliminary, and final plans and technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates, and make recommendations for additions, deletions, and modifications when necessary.
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of data.
  • Perform structural engineering design calculations and investigative analysis.
  • Develop finite element load rating analysis and compile bridge load rating reports.
  • Perform bridge load rating analysis and compile bridge load rating reports.
  • Assist in quantity calculations and estimating costs for bridge reports.
  • Communicate and interact with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to the project.
  • Assist in resolving a variety of complex problems (e.g. conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, challenging coordination requirements).
  • Perform tasks that demonstrate strong attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills, build and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships, and work independently on multiple tasks preferred.
