JMT’s Herndon, VA Office is seeking a motivated individual to take on increasing responsibilities for bridge and transportation structure projects at the local, state, and federal levels, with a focus on expanding JMT’s presence in Northern Virginia and DC. The selected candidate will be responsible for achieving all project objectives for assigned bridge and structural design projects, including planning, scope, schedule, budget, team coordination, stakeholder communication, risk management, resource management, quality assurance, and reporting. Additionally, this individual will play a key role in leading and growing the bridge engineering staff in the Herndon office and the broader Northern Virginia and DC region.

Requirements

  • Technical and structural engineering expertise throughout the project lifecycle, from preliminary through final design and construction.
  • Ability to coordinate and guide all technical resources within the project team.
  • Experience developing construction plans and associated submittal documents.
  • Experience developing project specific plans, including project management plans and quality management plans.
  • Experience identifying and managing subconsultants.
  • Ability to collaborate with disciplines and subconsultants to develop a risk-averse project scope and fee.
  • Experience managing projects in accordance with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Experience creating and maintaining project schedules.
  • Experience monitoring and executing project progress, including identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Experience developing extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals.
  • Experience preparing progress reports and reviewing invoices.
  • Experience assisting with the marketing process, including Go/No Go decisions, proposal development, and interviews.
  • Ability to build relationships with clients.
  • Ability to communicate project status, updates, and issues to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience developing and leading project status presentations.
  • Experience participating in project financial status meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and ongoing performance management, including setting goals, offering feedback, and coaching to support team growth, with the potential for direct reports.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to the project team through one-on-one check-in meetings and various project debriefs to recognize achievements, identify areas for improvement, and share lessons learned.
  • Help strengthen bridge engineering staff to support continued growth of the Herndon office and the Northern Virginia / DC region.
  • Provide technical and structural engineering expertise throughout the project lifecycle, from preliminary through final design and construction.
  • Coordinate and guide all technical resources within the project team to ensure delivery of a high-quality outcome, including development of construction plans and associated submittal documents.
  • Develop project specific plans, including project management plans and quality management plans.
