About The Position

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is seeking hardworking individuals to join their maintenance crew in The Dalles. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety of Oregon's roads and travelers. As a Bridge Maintenance Specialist, you will operate equipment to maintain and repair roadways, highways, bridges, and structures. You will also be involved in emergency cleanup and traffic control operations following events like storms, spills, and incidents. Requirements

  • One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work; OR Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.
  • CDL-A Required: Must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) with no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions, and no manual transmission restrictions.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire.
  • A valid U.S. driver license and an acceptable driving record are required.
  • Must be able to travel and stay out of town for overnight travel.
  • Must be able to move around rough terrain, bend and stoop for extended periods.
  • May need to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • May need to be available after hours, on weekends, and holidays for emergency, on call, and weather-related purposes.
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies within a maximum of 45 minutes to 3313 Bret Clodfelter Way, The Dalles, OR 97058.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in road maintenance, construction, or in a maintenance training program such as ODOT High School to Highway program, ODOT/ODF Fire and Ice program, Job Corps, etc.
  • Farming experience.
  • Experience driving or traveling for work.
  • Experience performing concrete work.
  • Experience working cohesively on a team.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and tools to maintain, repair, reconstruct, and strengthen wooden, steel, and concrete bridges and culverts.
  • Construct and place rigging and scaffolding.
  • Perform concrete demolition, masonry work, steel work, woodwork, and paint work.
  • Perform inspections of structures for repairs.
  • Assist with weather-related emergencies and operate snowplows, deicer trucks, and other equipment to clear snow from roadways.
  • Perform minor surface repairs including pothole and concrete patching and small inlay work.
  • Clear debris, clear brush, mow grass, and spray roadside vegetation.
  • Maintain drainage systems, dig and clean ditches, and repair culverts, inlets, and erosion.
