If this statement resonates with you, don’t be so hard on yourself—apply for the job! We’re seeking a Bridge Inspection Technology to join our Cary, NC office. This position will assist the Team Leader of a 2-man bridge inspection team with in-depth safety inspections of all types of highway structures, including bridges, culverts, large pipes and walkways, and measurement of sign clearances. The successful candidate will take precise measurements on structures to detect any movement, deterioration and/or damage to structural members and documents deficiencies then write detailed structure inspection reports documenting all findings necessary for use in an asset management program which includes determining the structural integrity and safety of State highway structures. Work is performed in an outside environment with project location dealing with heights, slopes, and possible exposure to wildlife. Preference will be given to those applicants with bridge safety inspection experience. The successful candidate must be able to drive a vehicle and/or be able to drive alone. Bridge inspections will occur throughout the entire state of North Carolina that required out of town work/overnight stays. The position may require work outside of the state to support bridge inspections elsewhere. This position will report to our Raleigh office on a hybrid work schedule.

Requirements

  • Experience using Word and Excel
  • Experience with structure plan reading
  • Experience with bridge inspection equipment, i.e. Hydra Platforms, Man Lifts, Snooper Trucks or Boats
  • Experience with digital cameras, tape measures, hammers and ladders
  • Experience in drafting, sketching and report writing
  • Associate's degree in civil engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma
  • Two (2) years of progressive experience in the inspection, construction, design or maintenance of steel/concrete bridges or related construction activities; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience
  • Must be able to drive a vehicle and/or be able to drive alone.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NCDOT WIGINS system is preferred; but not required
  • Bridge safety inspection experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Team Leader of a 2-man bridge inspection team with in-depth safety inspections of all types of highway structures, including bridges, culverts, large pipes and walkways, and measurement of sign clearances.
  • Take precise measurements on structures to detect any movement, deterioration and/or damage to structural members.
  • Document deficiencies and write detailed structure inspection reports documenting all findings necessary for use in an asset management program which includes determining the structural integrity and safety of State highway structures.
  • Assist in carrying out in-depth inspections on bridges, light standards, culverts, pipes, sign supports & overhead walkways and preparation of reports detailing conditions found during the inspection process.
  • Training new inspectors.
  • Scheduling and planning the team’s activities in conformance with bridge priorities.
  • Additional site assessments for project development, field assessment or construction administration support for relevant projects could also be required of this position.
