About The Position

The AECOM North Carolina Transportation team is seeking a Bridge Inspector Team Lead to join our growing structural and transportation group located in Raleigh, NC. This role will support the planning, analysis, design, and rehabilitation of bridges and related transportation structures across a variety of public-sector projects. The role involves performing field inspections in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and local agency requirements, overseeing inspection teams, completing Quality Control reviews on inspection reports, performing Load Ratings for bridges, and structural design of new and rehabilitated bridges. The position also requires preparing comprehensive inspection reports, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. This role is for an experienced engineer performing specific and moderate portions of broader assignments, gathering and correlating engineering data, working on detailed assignments involving calculations and tests, proposing solutions to new problems, identifying discrepancies, and providing guidance to entry-level engineers. The individual will perform work in accordance with budgets and schedules with minimal supervision and independently complete primary design elements.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree plus 4 years of related experience, or AS Degree plus 6 years of related experience, or HS/GED plus 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency and/or education
  • Valid US Driver’s License required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites.
  • FHWA / NHI Safety Inspection of In-service Bridges
  • Frequent lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted

Responsibilities

  • Performing field inspections in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and local agency requirements.
  • Overseeing inspection teams in the field, including mentoring and training of junior staff on inspection methodologies and best practices.
  • Completing Quality Control reviews on inspection reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards.
  • Completing Load Ratings for in-service and new bridges in accordance with applicable codes and specifications.
  • Performing structural design of new and rehabilitated bridges using industry-standard software and analysis tools.
  • Preparing comprehensive inspection reports and technical documentation for submission to client agencies and stakeholders.
  • Coordinating with public-sector agencies, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives and timelines are met.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable safety protocols, regulations, and OSHA requirements during field operations.
  • Performing specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
  • Gathering and correlating basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Working on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
  • Proposing approaches to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
  • Identifying discrepancies in results and recommending corrective actions.
  • Providing guidance and professional development support to entry-level engineers.
  • Performing work in accordance with agreed-upon budgets and schedules with minimal supervision.
  • Independently performing all tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
