The work supports statewide safety by overseeing inspections, documentation, and coordination with various partners.

Requirements

• One year as a Transportation Construction Inspector (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
• Two years of construction inspection experience and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology
• An equivalent combination of experience and training
• Must meet the qualifications for a bridge inspection team leader as defined by the current National Bridge Inspection Standards
• Possession of a valid non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent
• Must meet the PA residency requirement
• Must be able to perform essential job functions

Responsibilities

• Direct and guide inspection staff during field operations and reporting
• Examine bridge components, as well as identify conditions and deficiencies
• Maintain accurate inspection data, forms, photographs, and sketches
• Work with maintenance units and railroads to secure access and resources
• Compile thorough inspection reports with clear descriptions and findings
• Use ladders, lifts, cranes and other tools to safely access bridge structures
