About The Position

GFT is seeking a Bridge Inspection Project Manager to join our Transportation group in Tampa, FL. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Tampa, FL office. The Tampa, FL office GFT is seeking an emerging or established engineering leader with experience in bridge inspection and project management. This role will be responsible for leading the field inspection and completion of inspection reports for routine and complex bridges located throughout Florida DOT Districts 1 and 7. Additional duties may include performance of structural design/analysis; the preparation of bridge load rating reports; and the preparation of construction documents, project specifications and quantity/cost estimates. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs, including oversight of entry-level staff engineers and attending client meetings. Field assignments may involve travel within the continental United States. No relocation assistance provided.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from a 4-yr accredited college or university.
  • Registered as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Florida, or ability to obtain within 3 months
  • 15 years of related Bridge Inspection experience.
  • Qualifications to be a team leader per the National Bridge Inspection Standards.
  • Completion of FHWA-NHI-130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges, with refreshers to maintain current approved status
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Valid Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Perform project management and engineering tasks related to the management and completion of tasks related to the FDOT bridge inspection program, managing a diverse team of subconsultants.
  • Oversee preparation of inspection schedules, review of inspection reports, and other functions necessary to coordinate all aspects of the project.
  • Attend meetings and interaction with clients. Effective written and oral communication skills are imperative.
  • Oversee project delivery by providing direction and oversight to project team members for the completion of field inspections, report development, work order recommendations, and work order issuance.
  • Communicate timely and effectively with Florida Area leadership.
  • Support and develop team members
  • Schedule regular status meetings / in-person meetings with team members
  • Regularly reviewing schedules to prevent delinquent inspections and report submittments.
  • Develop/Manage labor projections for the team
  • Facilitate resourcing for the team
  • Review/Oversee project budgets
  • QA/QC – Work with team members to ensure quality expectations are being met.
  • Develop contingency and team member transitions plans, identify successors and provide mentorship.
  • Ensure focus on creating a work environment that retains top talent, creates development opportunities for employees, communicates performance concerns, mentors, supports positive morale, and strategically acquires new talent.
  • Perform follow-up on-site reviews of critical findings when needed.
  • Coordinate client requests for urgent and emergency response, including providing on-site expertise at damaged structures to facilitate FDOT decision-making to close bridges or adjust traffic control to maintain traffic to the extent possible. It is anticipated that the Bridge Inspection Project Manager will be the primary responder to these situations.
  • Work with the inspection team to provide hurricane response, including coordination and scheduling of teams.
  • Work with Division Leader to ensure optimal utilization / workload by sharing work as necessary across multiple teams.
  • Serve as Confirming Engineer to sign and seal final inspection reports, when needed.
  • Participate in FDOT Feasible Action Review Committee meetings, providing technical assistance for the asset manager and FDOT to determine work orders to issue and identify candidates for FDOT’s bridge repair program.
