Bridge Inspection Intern - Summer 2027
About The Position

An intern supports the assigned bridge inspection and design department by assisting with a variety of tasks, including special project assignments and active participation in project design and documentation, to gain practical experience and support their educational development. Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification. Compensation is $22.00 - $27.00/hour, commensurate with education.
Requirements
- Must be pursuing a degree in a relevant field (e.g., Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Basic understanding of engineering principles and practices.
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Nice To Haves
- Previous internship experience in a related field.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Familiarity with bridge inspection principles and standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist senior or lead (architects, engineers, inspectors, interior designers, project managers) with basic design tasks, including research, simple studies, and layout support
- Assist with field inspections of in-service structures and related documentation
- Help prepare drawings and documents for programming, schematic design, modeling, graphics, design development, and construction phases
- Support the creation of presentation and marketing materials
- Assist with construction phase activities, including participating in site visits, supporting RFI responses, reviewing shop drawings, and helping update record drawings
- Follow established quality control procedures and ask questions as needed
- Learn and apply department and company standards and best practices
- Develop basic design, analysis, and technical skills through hands-on experience
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with team members
- Receive guidance and direction from supervisors and team leaders
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, interior designers, and other multidisciplinary team members
- Perform other related duties as assigned
