About The Position

Advance critical infrastructure safety while developing your engineering expertise as a Bridge Inspection Engineer at Burgess & Niple. In this role, you'll work alongside Professional Engineers, Engineers-In-Training, and Technicians to inspect bridges of all sizes, combining fieldwork with technical analysis and design calculations. You'll collaborate with diverse teams to support inspection schedules, ensure regulatory compliance, and perform structural evaluations, all while growing your skills through mentorship and contributing to projects nationwide.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 1 – 4 years of bridge inspection engineering experience
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineer Intern registration
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving history and ability to travel nationwide up to 40%
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation required
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Physical capability to lift and carry 60 lbs. of gear and withstand high levels of physical exertion

Nice To Haves

  • experience with AASHTOWare, BrM, AssetWise or other bridge inspection and design/rating software preferred
  • NHI/FHWA Bridge Inspection Courses and/or SPRAT Certification desired
  • Adaptable and self-motivated with an entrepreneurial mindset as well as a proactive approach to problem solving

Responsibilities

  • Work with multidisciplinary teams of Professional Engineers, Engineers-In-Training, and Technicians on bridge inspections across the region
  • Collaborate with field inspection teams to develop schedules, prioritize urgent inspections, and allocate resources efficiently
  • Perform design calculations and load ratings of existing bridges
  • Maintain current knowledge of state DOT and federal inspection protocols and ensure compliance with all regulations
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to bridge inspection team members including junior inspectors and technicians
  • Travel extensively (up to 40%) throughout the U.S. to support diverse bridge inspection projects
