About The Position

Michael Baker International is seeking a detail-oriented field Bridge Associate (Inspection) to join its CTDOT Bridge and Tunnel Inspection Team in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. The role involves inspecting complex bridges, tunnels, and overhead sign structures, and may include structural analysis and other engineering tasks for bridge systems. Work includes a mix of on-site fieldwork and office collaboration. Under the guidance of Engineers, Technical Managers, and Project Managers, the successful candidate will contribute to a variety of bridge projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience.
• EIT certification or ability to obtain it within 6 months.
• Familiarity with software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, MathCAD, Microsoft Office, AASHTOWare BrR/BrD, MIDAS, and LARSA.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
• Commitment to quality, accuracy, safety, and efficiency.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, use ladders, and work alongside live traffic.
• Safety-conscious and responsible for personal and team safety.
• Ability to use hand tools and other equipment necessary for bridge evaluation.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a DOT Medical Certificate for operating bucket trucks and company vehicles.
• Availability for night and weekend work as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist inspection Team Leaders during field inspections to determine the structural condition of bridges and other structures.
• Write technical inspection reports and review the work of other staff.
• Assist with preparing CAD drawings for bridge and highway projects as needed.
• Assist with structural analysis of bridges and other structures as needed.
• Assist Project Managers with project deliverables and budgets.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with employees, clients, and other collaborators.
• Assist with design and analysis tasks, reports, and supporting documentation for bridge projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
