About The Position

AECOM Technical Services, Inc. is seeking a Bridge Engineer in Providence, RI. This role involves serving as the lead structural engineer on projects, reviewing designs and plans, and providing specialized technical input on transportation-related projects, particularly vehicle and rail bridges. The engineer will conduct load rating analyses for highway and rail bridges to ensure compliance with regulatory and safety requirements. Responsibilities include the conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design of new bridges using various materials such as pre-stressed concrete, reinforced concrete, structural steel, and timber. The role also requires reviewing and checking design calculations for components like bearings, expansion joints, baseplates, and gravity walls, and preparing technical reports. Additionally, the engineer will evaluate the impact of operational changes on existing bridges and retaining walls, perform inspections, assessments, and rehabilitation designs, and utilize computer software for structural analysis and design. Preparation of technical specifications, design documents, report writing, technical engineering support, and limited construction inspection are also key duties. Telecommuting is permitted 2-4 days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field of study
  • 3 years of experience as a Bridge Engineer, Structural Engineer, Civil Engineer, or in a related occupation
  • Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain Professional Engineer License within six months of hire
  • Structural analysis and design according to local and national standards
  • Bridge load rating using regional policies and guidelines
  • Technical report writing and peer review
  • Project management experience
  • Directing staff as a structural lead for bridge design projects

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead structural engineer on projects including reviewing designs and plans

  • Provide conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design of new bridges utilizing pre-stressed concrete, reinforced concrete, structural steel, and timber components
  • Review and check design calculations for bearings, expansion joints, baseplates, and gravity walls, and prepare technical reports documenting findings and recommendations
  • Evaluate the impact of increased train speeds, utility modifications, and other operational changes on the integrity of existing bridges and retaining walls
  • Perform inspection, assessment, and rehabilitation design of existing bridges
  • Utilize computer software for the analysis and design of complex structures
  • Prepare technical specifications and design documents, report writing, technical engineering support, and limited inspection during construction
