HDR's Bridge Engineer will serve as a project manager, technical leader, or a task leader for structural engineering projects of varying sizes and complexity that typically include bridge (steel plate girder, prestress concrete, segmental and cable) box culvert, and interchange design for highway and railway projects. This role involves preparing or reviewing scopes, budgets, and schedules, performing structural and feasibility analysis for advanced planning and type selection studies, and preparing related reports and technical memorandums. The engineer will also perform structural design and detailing of new bridge structural components (superstructure, substructure, and foundation components) for new, widening, and replacement structure projects, as well as structural design and detail of related earth retaining structures. Responsibilities include selecting standard bridge engineering/design procedures, developing structural details using specialized structural design and analysis software, performing structural load calculations, and assisting with geometric layout. The role also entails assessment and retrofit of existing bridges, producing and revising bridge material quantities, cost estimates, and specifications, and producing and revising construction documentation. Additionally, the engineer will review shop drawings and field submittments, coordinate with subconsultants to keep projects on schedule and within budget, manage day-to-day communication with the client, implement project quality plans, and review work of and mentor junior engineers and technical staff as needed.
