Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • 4+ years of bridge inspection experience
  • Ohio Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain within one year)
  • Completion of FHWA-NHI-130055 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges)
  • NBIS Team Leader qualification in accordance with 23 CFR 650
  • Experience performing inspections on a variety of bridge types
  • Familiarity with Bridge Inspection Management Systems
  • Solid understanding of structural analysis and design principles
  • Experience with Bentley tools (MicroStation, ProjectWise, OpenBridge Modeler)

Nice To Haves

  • Additional FHWA/NHI certifications (Fracture Critical, Movable Bridges, Tunnels, etc.)
  • SPRAT Rope Access Certification

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform bridge inspections in accordance with NBIS standards and safety best practices
  • Conduct load ratings using AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR) software
  • Contribute to the design and rehabilitation of bridges—supporting calculations, plans, specs, and cost estimates
  • Prepare and support bridge rating reports and technical documentation
  • Manage your work effectively by helping monitor project budgets and schedules
  • Work across a variety of structures and environments, gaining well-rounded, hands-on experience
  • Operate both independently and collaboratively with a team of experienced engineers and inspectors
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety in both field and office settings
  • Travel to project sites and perform fieldwork year-round, including in unique and challenging conditions
