About The Position

Parsons is looking for a talented Bridge Drafter to join their team full-time to support large transformative transportation projects across the nation. These projects have construction values greater than $1 billion and aim to enhance mobility, safety, and reliability for communities. This position is remote, allowing for flexibility in work location while supporting virtual collaboration. Parsons is a leading design-build firm with a global presence, known for working on challenging infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelors and 2+ years of related work experience OR Associate's Degree 2-year technical degree (or equivalent) and 4+ years of related work experience.
  • Solid operational knowledge of 2D drafting tools within industry-standard software, primarily Bentley MicroStation (preferred) or Autodesk AutoCAD.
  • Understanding how to attach, scale, and manage external references (XREFs or reference files).
  • Ability to navigate pre-configured CAD workspaces, active design files, sheet views, and model spaces.
  • Ability to accurately apply text scaling, dimension styles, callouts, and leader lines appropriate for varying sheet print sizes.
  • Skill in reading and understanding structural engineering sketches, plans, sections, profiles, and cross-sections.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of reinforcing steel layout rules, concrete cover requirements, bar lap splice/development lengths, and complex bending schedules.
  • Ability to perform accurate structural calculations for concrete volumes, weights of steel, and surface areas of coatings.
  • Familiarity with individual state Department of Transportation (DOT) CAD standards, cell libraries, and delivery protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Developing plans using CAD software for fundamental bridge elements such as framing plans, abutments, piers, barriers, bridge decks, and standard approach slabs.
  • Organizing drawing elements into official project sheet templates, ensuring proper scale, borders, and title block information.
  • Precisely placing annotations, dimensions, callouts, and leader lines to ensure drawings are clean and legible.
  • Accurately updating existing drawing sets by incorporating redline corrections from engineers or senior detailers.
  • Computing straightforward material volumes and weights, such as cubic yards of concrete or total linear feet of standard bridge railing.
  • Performing basic geometry to verify horizontal and vertical clearances, standard spacing, and simple linear dimensions on drafting assignments.
