About The Position

Dewberry is seeking a Bridge Construction Inspector to work on VDOT projects in the greater Northern Virginia area. To qualify, candidates must have prior construction inspection experience on new VDOT infrastructure and/or repair projects. Additional requirements include excellent communications skills, ability to read and interpret plans and specifications, ability to perform complex quantity and engineering computations. Requirements

• Minimum 7 years prior bridge construction inspection experience on VDOT projects required
• Excellent communications skills
• Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
• Ability to perform complex quantity and engineering computations
• Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and terrains
• Ability to repetitively stoop, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 25 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes, in addition to ability to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

• OSHA 10 or 30 hour certification preferred
• ACI Field Grade I Technician certification preferred
• Experience in VDOT Structural Steel erection requirements preferred

Responsibilities

• Monitor operations to ensure contractor compliance with plans, contract terms and specification
• Review and monitor contractor’s plan of operation including phasing
• Advises contractors of violations and reviews and recommends approval of corrective measures
• Identifies necessary changes to construction plans to meet field conditions
• Makes field measurements of pay items and conducts materials testing
• Observes and monitors contractor’s construction equipment
• Maintains and reviews comprehensive project records including daily diaries, as-built plans, and pay quantity records
• Support CM project managers with coordination and scheduling of field activities
• May coach and/or guide a subordinate group
