About The Position

Mare Island Brewing Co. is seeking an experienced Brewer to join their team at their Coal Shed Brewery on Mare Island in Vallejo, CA. The brewery, located on the waterfront of the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard, was commissioned in 2017 and transformed a historic Navy coal shed into an 8,000 sq. ft. facility that includes a brewery, taproom, and event space. This role complements their existing taproom locations in Vallejo and Benicia. The brewery operates on a 15bbl Prospero brewhouse and a 1bbl Blichmann pilot system, with a CODI 6-head counter-pressure filling canning line. They are self-distributed throughout the Bay Area with over 300 accounts and are looking for a dedicated individual to add to their production team.

Requirements

2+ years of professional brewing experience
21+ years old
Computer proficiency with excellent communication skills (Excel, Word, Email)
Ability to pivot at a moment's notice responding to daily changes
Experience packaging beer
Strong mechanical knowledge
Team oriented
A passion for cleanliness
Meticulous record keeping
Ability to lift/maneuver up to 165lbs (full 1/2bbl keg)
Forklift experience

Nice To Haves

Relevant education (Cicerone certification or brewing diploma a plus)
Sensory skills a plus
Great sense of humor

Responsibilities

Wort production on both 15bbl brewhouse and 1bbl pilot system
Cellar operations including tank CIP, fermentation checks, dry hopping, yeast harvesting, and keg washing
Fining and transferring beer with a focus on low DO pickup
Packaging beer on the canning line and kegging
Quality control
Inventory control
Assist with recipe development
Laboratory controls and yeast cell counts
Equipment upkeep and preventative maintenance
Facility maintenance
Special projects as requested by management, such as tap line maintenance, pouring beers at beer club parties, and event setup
