About The Position

This role involves working directly with growers to solve problems and establish strong relationships between producers and the Company. The Breeder Technician will provide current scientific information to maximize farm production, advise producers on building and equipment specifications, and guide them on litter manipulation and farm sanitation. The position requires routine farm visits, documenting bird comfort, flock management, and equipment settings, and directing light and feed schedules. Key monitoring responsibilities include bird health, egg production, body weight, conformation, and feed consumption. The role also involves pulling blood and fat samples, coordinating bird placements and catch schedules, and ensuring effective communication between various departments (Hatchery, Feedmill, vaccination crews, and Livehaul) to meet contract requirements. The Breeder Technician must ensure producer and company compliance with production contracts for high-quality, low-cost flocks and adherence to USDA and other government regulations for poultry handling. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • College (minimum 2 years), prefer bachelor’s degree in Poultry Science or a similar field, or commensurate field experience.
  • Ability to work proactively, unsupervised, and be self-motivated.
  • Sound work ethic, honesty, and moral character.
  • Basic math functions and skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work with and solve grower problems; establish a good working relationship between producers and the Company.
  • Provide current science as directed by the Company to maximize farm production.
  • Advise producers regarding building and equipment specifications.
  • Advise producers on litter manipulation and farm sanitation.
  • Routinely visit farms (frequent travel).
  • Properly document bird comfort, flock management, and equipment settings.
  • Direct light and feed schedules.
  • Monitor: bird health, egg production, body weight, conformation, monitor feed consumption.
  • Pulling blood and fat samples promptly.
  • Effectively coordinating bird placements to the farms and helping with catch schedules, while ensuring effective communication between Hatchery, Feedmill, vaccination crews, and Livehaul as it pertains to contract.
  • Ensure the producer and company comply with the production contract to produce flocks of the highest quality and lowest cost ensuring good performance.
  • Ensure USDA and other government regulations are effectively followed when handling poultry.
  • All other duties as assigned.
