The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor/WIC Clerk (PC) will be responsible for providing women with basic breastfeeding information, including the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and handling common breastfeeding issues. The role involves conducting prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding support classes through group or individual contacts, telephone, or hospital visits, and making routine periodic contacts with assigned clients. Job training will be provided to enhance information and communication skills for better client support and engagement. Additionally, this position will be responsible for determining participant program eligibility, conducting health screenings (blood work and anthropometrics), and utilizing computer proficiency for virtual platforms like eWIC, Teletask, and Anydesk, answering phone calls, and scheduling appointments. Travel within the Gateway CAP service area is required, along with other duties as assigned by the supervisor/program manager.
