About The Position

This position is responsible for directly managing the assigned department by determining work procedures and ensuring the department complies with all operating policies and practices. Communication with appropriate personnel is also required as well as providing supervision to assigned personnel. Also, responsible for ensuring high quality radiographic and mammography imaging services while maintaining efficient quality control and performance improvement programs as well as compliance with government regulations.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in a radiologic technologist program required.
  • Current, valid American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) registration required.
  • Current, valid American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Registered Mammographer (ARRT R M) preferred required within 1 year of hire.
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification preferred at time of hire, required within 6 months of hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months to one year related experience and/or training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mammography procedures daily.
  • Check physician orders, identify the patient, assess the patient’s physical and mental status, obtain and document patient history and explain procedure to the patient.
  • Ensure screening mammography examinations fall within the established guidelines (ex: 11 months have passed since last mammogram).
  • Obtain all pertinent patient history.
  • Perform mammography procedures utilizing proper technical parameters and obtaining views per established protocols.
  • Document reasoning when unable to acquire established views or when protocols are altered.
  • Obtain additional views if needed, and/or ultrasound.
  • Provide and utilize lead protective devices for self and patient as required and always wear film badge to monitor radiation exposure levels.
  • Ensure quality images are obtained.
  • Check appropriate procedure charges after examination is completed.
  • Restock supplies in room, as needed.
  • Perform breast localization procedures.
  • Check that images are reviewed by the radiologist prior to scheduling of procedure.
  • Verification of written information consent signed by patient prior to start of procedure.
  • Perform mammography procedures utilizing proper techniques.
  • Utilize proper attachments, grids and compression devices.
  • Ensure quality images are obtained.
  • Clean and disinfect all equipment.
  • Assist physician with stereotactic procedures.
  • Perform all QC on equipment prior to starting procedure.
  • Perform procedure utilizing proper techniques.
  • Obtain specimens in proper containers and send to lab via courier.
  • Perform follow-up mammogram for clip placement.
  • Clean and disinfect all equipment.
  • Perform Dexa Scans
  • Perform daily QC on equipment prior to starting procedure.
  • Check physician’s orders, identify the patient and assess the patient’s physical and mental status.
  • Obtain and document all pertinent patient history.
  • Explain procedure to the patient.
  • Ensure dexa procedures fall within established guidelines (ex. One per year)
  • Perform dexa procedures utilizing proper techniques and obtaining views per established protocols.
  • Obtain scan of forearm for a third site, if needed.
  • Obtain IVA intervertebral analysis) if history of compression fractures.
  • Check appropriate procedure changes after examination is completed.
  • Restore previous scans for comparison and for rate for change.
  • Attend majority of required meetings annually assigned
  • Attend trainings, in-services, meetings and conferences as necessary and as directed
  • Communicate with staff creatively through verbal, written means
  • Participate on assigned committees

  • Schedule and prepare staffing patterns for assigned employees to manage resources
  • Maintain staffing schedules
  • Adjust staffing in accordance to the patient volume and demands
  • Ensure guidelines are followed for staff requests, PTO time and vacations
  • Evaluate the job performance of staff members with the Director of Ancillary Operations
  • Ensure completion of scheduled performance appraisal forms for assigned employees by the required deadline
  • Follow policies of Human Resources
  • Provide continual assessment, reinforcement and documentation annually and when appropriate
  • Ensure maintenance of employee education files
  • Identify, interview and hire qualified personnel with the assistance of the Director of Ancillary Operations.
  • Ensure new staff receive proper orientation following department guidelines
  • Review essential job functions with the applicant
  • Ask legal, open-ended questions that increase the likelihood of job match and validate qualifications
  • Develop and follow department guidelines for orientation
  • Ensure new staff receives proper orientation
  • Ensure completion and submission of PAF, position control form, recruitment log, and MIS security form with appropriate signatures in a timely manner
  • Develop and review policies and procedures with the assistance of the Director of Ancillary Operations.
  • Ensure that procedures and policies meet regulatory compliance requirements
  • Develop and update procedures and policies that provide assistance to staff members and empower involvement when applicable
  • Ensure staff is knowledgeable of updated policies
  • Provides direct assistance and support to the Director of Ancillary Operations.
  • Plan, Organize and direct operations for all areas in the JMBCC in the absence of the Director.
  • Provide assistance to the JMBCC providers and radiologists with clinical and administrative duties as needed.
  • Direct work activities for all staff within the breast care center while maximizing efficiencies and minimizing overtime.
  • Ensures that the needs of the patient are adequately met.
  • Recognize and actively pursue correction of safety hazards within areas of the building.
  • Ensure department compliance with guidelines established by governmental and regulatory agencies providing required documentation.
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adequate staffing to meet service needs and directs work activities for all staff while maximizing efficiencies and minimizing overtime.
  • Monitor the patient schedules throughout the day to adjust staff accordingly.
  • Assist with scheduling staff monthly and HR/ payroll system when applicable.
