About The Position

PennLive is looking for a multi-tasking journalist who can act with urgency, find stories others miss and write about the biggest topics of the day in Pennsylvania. This reporter will produce impactful enterprise and breaking news coverage that informs and serves our communities. Coverage may include follow-up reporting after tragedies that uncovers systemic issues, provides new information that deepens the public's understanding, and amplifies voices that might otherwise go unheard. The role will also support courthouse and legal reporting by identifying exclusive stories from lawsuits, following significant cases through resolution, and explaining their impact on our audience. As a member of the Public Safety Team, this reporter will primarily cover public safety and criminal justice issues while remaining flexible to report on other important topics as they emerge, including community controversies and the local impact of statewide and national events. PennLive considers breaking news our North Star and welcomes applications from journalists who are looking to join our energetic, collaborative and inquisitive newsroom.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • A minimum of one year of professional journalism experience, with a demonstrated ability to report thoroughly and write clear, compelling stories.
  • The ability to overcome obstacles, cultivate trusted sources, and ask tough questions in pursuit of the truth as part of our award-winning breaking news team.
  • A strong news instinct and the ability to identify stories that resonate with readers.
  • The ability to write accurately and quickly under deadline, shoot engaging vertical video, and efficiently analyze data, public records, and other documents to uncover meaningful stories.
  • Reliable transportation to meet with sources or cover events.
