The Cook prepares meals according to approved menus and recipes, taking into account the special dietary needs of residents living in the community. In the absence of the Dining Services Director, the cook supervises dietary staff to ensure efficient operation of the kitchen at all times. The role involves preparing and presenting menu items, maintaining a clean work area, reporting equipment issues, monitoring food temperatures and storage, and making menu substitutions with approval. The cook is also responsible for kitchen readiness for meal service, ensuring the kitchen is clean for the next day's operation when working the evening shift, and attending required meetings. A key aspect of the role is understanding and catering to specific resident requests and diets, being alert to changes in their needs, likes, and dislikes, and maintaining courteous interactions with residents, visitors, and staff. The cook must also follow confidentiality policies regarding resident information and may supervise dietary staff in the absence of superiors, assist in training new employees, and conduct training sessions as directed.
