About The Position

Familiar Machines & Magic (FM&M) is seeking a Copywriter / Brand Storyteller for a part-time contract role. This position is crucial for defining how the world perceives an entirely new category of emotionally intelligent Physical AI. The ideal candidate is a sharp consumer writer who can translate unfamiliar concepts into human, desirable, and inevitable narratives. This role involves writing, listening, and testing to refine the brand's story and language as the company learns and grows. The Copywriter / Brand Storyteller will own the words that shape first impressions and contribute to category-building work.

Requirements

  • 4+ years writing consumer-facing copy for a brand, agency, or startup.
  • A portfolio showcasing range: short-form social, campaign lines, and longer narrative or brand storytelling.
  • Demonstrated ability to make complex or unfamiliar ideas feel simple and emotionally resonant.
  • Experience shaping or contributing to brand voice and messaging for a new product or category.
  • A gift for emotional, human storytelling.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a willingness to test, learn, and revise.
  • Strong interest in positioning and category creation.
  • Clear, persuasive communication and easy collaboration across a small team.
  • Genuine excitement for the mission of building artificial life to create a more caring world.
  • Openness to new tools and AI-powered workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Write consumer-facing copy across social, web, email, and campaign moments, prioritizing emotion and mission over product specifics.
  • Develop and refine the category framing for Familiars, aiming to shift perception from 'pet' to an emotionally intelligent platform.
  • Craft messaging that makes a novel concept feel intuitive, warm, and desirable.
  • Test messaging reception across audiences and channels, iterating based on resonance.
  • Partner with the social content creator to ensure narrative consistency between written and visual content.
  • Help maintain a clear, evolving voice and messaging foundation as brand identity is finalized.
  • Adapt tone for distinct audiences, including consumers, potential partners, and investors.
