About The Position

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Brake Controls Software Engineer to join their Product Development team in Dearborn, Michigan. This is a hybrid position where the employee will work both from home and from the worksite, requiring the employee to live within a reasonable commuting distance. The role involves leading Brake Controls Software application engineering for safety-critical electronic brake systems, managing software and calibration deliveries, and guiding supplier partners through Ford's Global Product Development System. The engineer will verify software requirements, deliver work packages, resolve software issues, work with network communication, ensure compliance to Central Software requirements (ASPICE), lead technical design reviews, investigate diagnostic trouble code issues, and support various vehicle development processes including driver assist features, breadboard/HiL, prototype builds, and assembly plant setup. Domestic and International Travel is required up to 10%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Automotive Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 2 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • 2 years of experience applying FMEA and quality assurance processes to resolve engineering issues using 8D, 3-Legged 5 Whys, Is/Is-Not analysis, and fishbone diagrams to support efficient problem-solving and program timing.
  • 2 years of experience managing multiple supplier and in-house software teams to ensure on-time delivery of products meeting all requirements, supported by DVP&R planning, data analysis, and reporting documentation.
  • 2 years of experience developing solutions that meet full vehicle requirements, address technical issues, and ensure the safety and reliability of complex braking systems in advanced vehicle environments by collaborating within automotive systems engineering teams.
  • 2 years of experience diagnosing electromechanical systems and leading teams to develop robust designs while incorporating Functional Safety principles to ensure high quality, performance, reliability, and safety of brake control systems.
  • 1 year of experience designing, developing, diagnosing, and maintaining braking systems using vehicle network communication protocols, AutoSAR, and SAE J1979 to ensure regulatory compliance, enable efficient troubleshooting, and support advanced brake control technologies.
  • 1 year of experience using digital and analog data acquisition systems, including CANalyzer, to collect data for investigating vehicle software issues and validating software requirements.
  • 1 year of experience using controls modeling tools including MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, and SysML to design, analyze, and optimize complex systems, and to perform data analysis and requirement verification.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Brake Controls Software application engineer with in-house and supplier software of safety critical electronic brake systems.
  • Manage Brake Controls software and calibration deliveries (Coordination with supplier and in-house brake controls teams, program builds, Service software updates, Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates, and Change Management).
  • Guide electronic brake booster and electronic park brake supplier partners through the Ford Global Product Development System (GPDS).
  • Verify all software requirements are met at the appropriate milestone during development of the program.
  • Deliver software work packages through the software change management process.
  • Resolve all brake controls software issues found during program development along with current production warranty investigations.
  • Work with Cross-Module network communication implementation.
  • Ensure compliance to Central Software requirements (ASPICE).
  • Lead Software Technical Design Reviews (TDRs).
  • Investigate Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) issues including Quality Early Detection (QED).
  • Support service manual development.
  • Support driver assist features.
  • Support the Breadboard/HiL.
  • Support prototype vehicle builds.
  • Support assembly plant End-of-line (EOL) setup and issue resolution.
