About The Position

Judd Wire Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is looking for a 1st shift Braid Machine Operator in our Turners Falls, MA facility. Individuals will be responsible for a variety of duties including: Performing required operations connected with measuring, inspecting, testing and re-spooling wire and cable in preparation for shipping or its next operation. Targeted job training is provided for all skill levels starting on day 1 and throughout your career at Judd Wire.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of ordinary arithmetic including decimals, fractions, and simple use of specifications
  • Ability to use adjustable measuring instruments
  • Position requires moderate physical effort consisting of frequent moving, average weights, lifting up to 50 lbs., pushing, pulling etc.

Responsibilities

  • Perform operations connected with measuring, inspecting, testing, and re-spooling wire and cable.
  • Work from orders, special customer requirements, requisitions, and verbal instructions regarding wire type, gauge, number of ends, picks/crossovers per inch, and footage required.
  • Meet schedules and work in the BPCS system.
  • Maintain the desired number of ends and mount bobbins on braider carriers.
  • Maintain good traverse during braiding operations and use a micrometer to check wire gauges.
  • Separate different gauges for use and return to stock.
  • Follow SOPs and change take-up reels before they are overfilled.
  • Make minor adjustments to ensure smooth machine operation, motor speeds, and tension on carrier stems.
  • Perform minor maintenance, including oiling of machines.
  • Cut loose ends of braid, separate bobbins, box for return to vendor, and keep guards and shields over pulley gears and chain.
  • Identify raw material part and lot numbers as necessary.
  • Utilize the computer system to determine raw materials inventory as required to complete orders.
  • Contact other departments regarding raw materials.
  • Detect and report defective materials, improper compounding, malfunctioning equipment, and unusual conditions to supervision.
  • Observe all safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas in clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform other similar or related duties as assigned or instructed by supervisor.
